How Skai Makes Your Pre-Wedding Photos Stand Out

I prefer doing creative concepts, which are more fun, interesting and unique. However, it depends on the couples to take up challenges. I also encourage couples to do concepts that would link to their lifestyles so that the photographs would be more meaningful.

I always try to set up my lighting whenever possible, so that my work would stand out from others. I work on soft light and also add impacts to the photographs. I try to show the details of the sky to make the photographs look more spectacular.

Below are some of the reasons why you should work with me on your ideal pre-wedding or bridal photoshoot.

  1. Flattering Wedding Portraits

    Bridal shoot with beautiful Hilary
This photograph of Hilary was taken in the late morning, almost an hour to noon. We were extremely lucky that it was a cloudy day and thus my 600-watt strobe could overcome the sunlight to produce flattering light. However, the biggest challenge I faced was the constantly changing ambient light due to the moving clouds that allowed different amounts of sunlight to reach us.

Bridal shoot with beautiful Sharon Ng
This photograph of Sharon Ng was taken in the evening when the sun was about to set. The sunlight was rather harsh for the timing as the sky was clear. I managed to add my flash to bring down the ambient light while making Sharon look good.

    Bridal shoot with beautiful Ayumi
This photograph of Ayumi was taken in the mid-morning and unfortunately, the sky was clear and thus the sunlight was extremely harsh. I managed to find a sheltered spot to reduce the ambient light using my 600-watt strobe while a thin layer of cloud happened to block the direct sun.

    Bridal shoot with beautiful Hilary
This photograph of Hilary was taken in the late afternoon. The weather was good and thus I was able to create the beautiful effect with the focus on Hilary with the aid of my strobe.

Bridal shoot with beautiful Ivia Xiao Hui
This photograph of Ivia Xiao Hui was taken in the late morning. The sunlight was harsh most of the time but I managed to keep the ambient light down with the aid of my strobe.

Bridal shoot with beautiful Jessyca Ang
This photograph of Jessyca Ang was taken in the late afternoon. The ambient light was soft enough to capture this.

"You want to look beautiful, don't you?"

Every bride wants to look beautiful in the most special photo album of her life. Just hiring a good professional makeup artist to style you up isn't enough - you will also need a very good photographer.

A professional photographer needs to have the photography equipment, knowledge and experience to create soft light to make you look pleasing. One of the toughest things is carrying bulky and heavy equipment along for the photoshoot. It takes time and effort to set up and test for the correct lighting, which is why most of the outdoor wedding photoshoots that you get to see in public won't include large softboxes. If you're lucky, the ambient light may be very good; however, we can't simply count on luck to create beautiful photographs. Besides, without professional equipment, there are certain angles you can't be captured in, such as in backlight situations (the main light is at the back of the subjects).

In photography, lighting is extremely important to make the subject(s) look beautiful and soft, and this makes my work extremely different from most other photographers' - I'm always trying my best to produce the best light possible, even at the expense of injuries for carrying the heavy equipment along.

During my post-production, I try my best to make the skin look natural, which requires lots of extra time and effort. There are times when I take three hours just to edit a photograph. In contrast, I often see photographs online with the subjects looking fake like plastic - this is due to overediting - an easy way to remove the flaws on the skin, which is more efficient for photographers to speed up the work.

My portrait portfolio speaks for itself.

  2. Creative & Eye-Catchy Wedding Portraits

Pre-wedding shoot with Mike and Monica
This photograph of Mike and Monica was taken in the afternoon inside a hotel room. She decided to be a cute sassy wife.

Creative couple shoot with Derrick and Ariel
This photograph of Derrick and Ariel was taken in the afternoon. We decided to create a cute and fun photograph with the paparazzi openly snapping the couple while they were kissing.

Creative pre-wedding shoot with Shengyang and Huiting
This photograph of Shengyang and Huiting was taken in the late afternoon. The sun was extremely harsh from the right side and I had to abuse my 600-watt light. The road made it a good place for the couple to race against each other.

"You want to be special and stand out from the others"

A wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime event that we should spend extra effort to make memorable. Having a special pre-wedding shoot album can serve the purpose. If you wish to stand out from others, other than signing up for overseas pre-wedding shoot packages, which many couples are already doing, you can do boutique/conceptual/themed shoots instead. We will come out with a few sets of interesting ideas related to your stories and create a unique wedding album.

Photography is my passion and I always look forward to creating interesting work with couples who are fun and open-minded and don't insist on following the traditional way of a wedding shoot. I like to bring forward concepts related to my models and amaze the viewers. Be it cute, quirky or sexy, I'm looking forward to stunning the viewers and creating a memorable album that you can refer to.

Tell me your stories. Let me know how you have met each other. Flood me with a list of your hobbies. Let's get crazy!

One problem with me is that I don't like to do the same thing over and over again. This is why I'm always dying for interesting concepts or at least, I try to do my shoots in different parts of Singapore. Even for poses, I always utilise the creativity of my models.

  3. Bespoke Wedding Portraits

Creative pre-wedding shoot with Shengyang and Huiting
This photograph of Shengyang and Huiting was taken in the late morning inside their favourite restaurant. The restaurant kindly permitted us to do the shoot as Huiting contacted them via email before the shoot. We had very limited space and we had to avoid causing any inconvenience to the other customers. Eventually, we got a series of cute photographs there.

Creative pre-wedding shoot with Shengyang and Huiting
This photograph of Shengyang and Huiting was taken in the late afternoon inside a well-designed house where they previously had gatherings at. We made use of props to create a fun shoot.

Bespoke photography means tailor-made photography to personalise portraits for individuals.

  4. Clear Objective: You're the Primary Focus

Casual pre-wedding shoot with Wei Loong and Shujuan
This photograph of Wei Loong and Shujuan was taken towards the late morning using natural light. The sun was extremely hot and we managed to find this spot to capture this photograph where the backlighting helped to create a rim of headlight while the angle didn't affect the clarity too much. We wanted to make use of the lalang. The left of the photograph was very bright due to the open sky while the back and right side were trees - the best option in this situation was to focus on the couple.

Pre-wedding shoot with Ashikin and Ridhwan
This photograph of Ridhwan and Ashikin was taken in the late afternoon using natural light. The lighting was unusually harsh for the timing. The surrounding was rather boring and there were many other people around. We didn't have the luxury of time since the actual day wedding was ongoing. Hence, I went for a close-up shot with the "clean" building and trees to block the direct sunlight.

Pre-wedding shoot with Nathaniel and Rachel
This photograph of Nathaniel and Rachel was taken in the late morning before rushing off for their wedding tea ceremony. The lighting wasn't good due to the gaps between the tree branches and leaves that cast weird shadows around. The interaction between the couple was great and thus I went for a close-up shot.

    Bridal shoot with cheerful Shinyi
This photograph of Shinyi was taken in the late morning. The ambient light was bad due to the cloudless sky but I abused my 600-watt light to dim down the ambient light while keeping Shinyi beautifully lighted up. The goal of this photograph was to showcase the urban background with Shinyi in the "middle" to create a stunning effect. I positioned her at this distance from my lens so that she would appear large enough since she's the main subject after all.

    Bridal shoot with beautiful Khin
This photograph of Khin was taken in the late afternoon using natural light as requested. The sun was furious but we made use of the side of the temple for this photograph where Khin was sheltered. Since she's the main subject, I framed her in a large portion of the photograph.

"You are the focus and you want viewers to be able to identify you"

I often crack a joke when I see photographs of the main subject appearing small - I would say I'm the person inside.

While the scenery is important, you want people to know that you're the person inside the photograph. Therefore, my style is to make sure the subject fills a certain portion of the frame so that he/she can be identified by the viewers. Or otherwise, why don't you go online to find some existing photographs instead, so that you can be "flown" to any part of the world that you want?

My shooting style is a bad thing for photographers because the closer you get to the lens, the more flaws would be shown and the more editing work has to be done. I assume this is one reason why some photographers can afford to charge lower rates, especially for overseas shoots as they tend to focus more on the sceneries than the couples - less editing work.

  5. Sexy but Classy Wedding Portraits

Sexy bridal shoot with beautiful Robyn Skye
This photograph of Robyn Skye was taken in the late afternoon. The tall trees around made the place dim. Robyn had a very good figure and thus this pose was very flattering. We kept it natural and stylish. No boob was intended to drop.

Sexy pre-wedding shoot with Mike and Monica
This photograph of Mike and Monica was taken in the late afternoon inside a hotel room after their ROM. The poses made the photograph sexy without having to bare skin.

"You can be very sexy but still look classy"

This is optional. You can be sexy or extremely sexy, but I will still be able to keep the photographs stylish. If you wish to create a stunning album, be open and discuss it with me.

  6. Beautiful Background

    Bridal shoot with beautiful Hilary
This photograph of Hilary was done in the late morning, nearly one and a half hours to noon time. The white building would bounce off much more sunlight than Hilary's face while the sky would be even brighter. Given such a situation, if I were to depend solely on natural light, (1) I could get Hilary's face properly lighted up but the sky and building would be overexposed; or otherwise, (2) I could keep the sky and building's exposure perfect as shown in the photograph but Hilary's face would be dark. We were extremely lucky that it was a cloudy day and thus my 600-watt strobe could not only overcome the sunlight but also produce soft light.

Bridal shoot with beautiful Ivia Xiao Hui
This photograph of Ivia Xiao Hui was done in the late morning. The sky was, most of the time, clear and thus gave us problems. The tree branches and leaves managed to help to keep away some of the light, but at the same time, cast unflattering shadows. It was a game of patience together as we made good use of the short duration whenever some small clouds managed to block the sun from hitting us directly. I reduced the ambient light with the help of my 600-watt strobe so that the background would not be very glaring, as of the actual situation, to distract viewers from the main subject - Ivia.

Pre-wedding shoot with Leslie and Sally
This photograph of Leslie and Sally was taken in the afternoon after their wedding. I used my strobe to create this dramatic effect. Besides, my beauty dish was able to produce better lighting than the actual sunlight.

Pre-wedding shoot with Leslie and Sally
This photograph of Leslie and Sally was taken in the morning before their wedding. Since the sunlight came from the back of the building, I had limited choices and thus I chose the correct exposure for the building over the details of the sky. Therefore, I carefully dimmed down the ambient light for the building before using my strobe to light up the couple beautifully. There's a choice to further dim down the ambient light, such that the building would be much darker and there would be slightly more details to be shown in the sky, but I didn't want it to be too dramatic for this shot.

    Bridal shoot with beautiful Melanie
This photograph of Melanie was taken in the late morning. The sun was harsh but I managed to dim down the ambient light by abusing my 600-watt strobe. The greenery at the back was much brighter but I didn't want them to distract the viewers from admiring the main subject - Melanie.

"While the background is important, keep them pleasant"

You go for an outdoor shoot so that you can incorporate beautiful scenery into your photographs. Therefore, doing too much of a bokeh (background blur) effect doesn't justify the effort - you might as well just do the shoot with a plain background like a black or white backdrop in a studio with proper air-conditioning and a relaxing environment. You can then take a seat to rest at any time and you don't even have to walk.

While using a beautiful background to make every photograph interesting, I make sure they don't take away the focus of the subjects. One important factor of the background is the exposure and I always try to make sure the brightness is well controlled. This is possible with the use of my professional lighting in most situations.

  7. Display Details of Sky

Pre-wedding shoot with Shengyang and Huiting
This photograph of Shengyang and Huiting was taken near sunset when the cloud finally started to cover the furious sun that had tortured us for the entire day. I dimmed down the ambient light and used my strobe to light the couple up. Eventually, we managed to document the details of the sky in the background as well to create the effect. This shot couldn't be captured beautifully with natural light since it was backlighting and the sky would likely be overexposed.

Bridal shoot with beautiful Jessyca Ang
This photograph of Jessyca was taken after sunset while there were still some small beams of light left in the background - the moment before complete darkness. I was able to light Jessyca up properly using my strobe.

"Sky is beautiful, you are beautiful too"

To capture the details of the sky while having your face properly and beautifully lit up, you will need to use a soft flashlight.

A photographer can depend solely on ambient light and then "PhotoShop" the sky but the result likely won't be as natural as a professional job. A photographer can use a bare speedlite, which is extremely portable, but the lighting won't be flattering on your face. What I do is, whenever possible, set up big light modifier(s) so that your face will be lighted up properly and beautifully, with the details of the sky being shown.

  8. Beautiful Night Outdoor Wedding Portraits

Night outdoor bridal portrait with beautiful Robyn Skye
This photograph of Robyn Skye was taken at night. I retained the beautiful light in the background and fire a very soft light from my huge softbox at an angle that created the mood.

"When night falls, you still look beautiful"

Similar to capturing the details of the sky, a photographer will require using of flash to capture your face correctly and beautifully lit up.

My night outdoor shoots are unique.

How Skai Began Doing Pre-Wedding Photography

At the core of my photography journey lies a passion for capturing moments, and portrait photography stole my heart. It's the realm where I feel in control, especially when it comes to manipulating the lighting environment with my trusty professional lighting equipment.

Yet, being someone who craves variety, I wanted to explore beyond the familiar territory of portraits. The world of photography is vast and I wanted to venture into more intriguing genres, breaking away from the usual portrait scenes.

The spark for pre-wedding photography ignited during a mate's ROM ceremony. It was a lightbulb moment – capturing those immediate post-"I do" vibes. Little did I know, this seemingly simple decision became my gateway into the captivating world of pre-wedding photography.

As I shared my photographic escapades, the response was like a snowball effect. More clients started knocking on my virtual door, seeking to immortalise their unique moments. It felt like the universe giving me a friendly nod, saying, "People dig what you're doing, Skai."

Now, here's where the plot thickens. A couple spilt the beans about their not-so-rosy experience with a bridal studio. The templated poses were as stiff as a board, not exactly the ideal way to celebrate love. They craved something different, something relaxed. Luckily, they stumbled upon my work. To cut a long story short, they opted for a more casual, lifestyle pre-wedding photoshoot with me, and it was an absolute blast. Turns out, my style – steering clear of rigid poses – struck a chord with those who wanted a bit of fun in their pre-wedding memories. It shows that not every pose needs to be a serious affair.

In the grand scheme of things, I've realised that pre-wedding photography is more than just capturing moments. It's an avenue for playfulness and meaning. The canvas of pre-wedding photoshoots, adorned with wedding gowns and suits, provides a unique opportunity for impact and allows me to explore an overload of creative ideas. It's a delightful journey where themes can be as playful and meaningful as the couple desires.

Why Skai Loves Doing Pre-Wedding Photography

As a professional pre-wedding photographer in Singapore, I love doing pre-wedding photoshoots here! Singapore is an incredibly diverse and beautiful country, with a wide range of locations that are perfect for pre-wedding photoshoots.

One of the things I love most about pre-wedding photoshoots in Singapore is the variety of locations on offer. From the lush gardens of Gardens by the Bay, to the stunning views from Marina Bay Sands, Singapore has something for everyone. Each location offers a unique and beautiful setting, perfect for capturing the couple's love and connection naturally and authentically.

Another thing I love about pre-wedding photoshoots in Singapore is the opportunity to work with diverse cultures and backgrounds. Singapore is a melting pot of different cultures and backgrounds, and it's always a pleasure to work with couples from all over the world, who come here to capture their pre-wedding moments. Each couple brings its own unique story, and it's a privilege to be able to capture those stories through my camera lens.

I also love creating unique and one-of-a-kind photos, that tell the story of a couple artistically and creatively. I always look for ways to make each photo stand out and be special.

But most importantly, I love seeing the genuine interaction between couples. There's nothing quite like being able to capture the love and connection between two people, and being able to preserve those memories for them to treasure forever. That's what makes pre-wedding photoshoots so special and meaningful to me.

In short, pre-wedding photoshoots in Singapore are a true pleasure for me, the diversity of locations, the opportunity to work with diverse cultures and backgrounds, the chance to create unique and special photos and most importantly being able to capture the love story of a couple. Let's make some beautiful memories together!

Tips & Tricks for Pre-Wedding Photoshoots

Types of Pre-Wedding Photoshoots

Wedding photoshoots include pre-wedding photoshoots and post-wedding photoshoots. It's a trend for couples to create wedding portraits and celebrate their love and wedding.

A pre-wedding photoshoot is usually done before the wedding banquet (actual day wedding) of a couple. The couple would then print an album using the wedding photographs to showcase to the guests during the wedding banquet. Of course, some couples may post wedding photographs on their social media profiles to share their love.

There are many different types of pre-wedding photoshoots and a pre-wedding photoshoot can be a combination of a few types of them.

It's important to keep in mind that pre-wedding photoshoots are personal and unique to each couple. Each type of photoshoot has its advantages and disadvantages and it's important to consider what is important to the couple and what style of photoshoot aligns with their personalities and interests.

Below are some of the different types of pre-wedding photoshoots:

Personalised Pre-Wedding Photoshoots

Personalised pre-wedding photoshoot in Singapore
Personalised pre-wedding photoshoot

A personalised pre-wedding photoshoot is tailored to the specific needs and preferences of the couple. It can include elements from different types of pre-wedding photoshoots, such as a mix of traditional and modern elements, or a blend of indoor and outdoor settings. The photographer works closely with the couple to understand the couple's backgrounds and create a unique and personalised concept that reflects their personalities and interests.

For example, the couple can do a school-themed photoshoot if they happened to be studying in the same school in the past. They can go back to the same school or perhaps, just have a classroom setting for the shoot. If both of them enjoy sports like soccer, they can be wearing the same pair of soccer jerseys for the shoot. The wedding couples can have a photoshoot session at places where they first met or dated. They can also work on themes that resemble their common interests. The sky is the limit.

Advantages include the ability to create a truly unique and personalised set of photos that are meaningful to the couple, and the ability to tailor the photoshoot to the couple's specific needs and preferences.

Disadvantages include the potential for higher costs and the need for more planning and coordination.

Themed Pre-Wedding Photoshoots

A themed pre-wedding photoshoot is based on a specific theme or concept, such as a fairy tale, vintage or a specific era.

For example, a fairytale-themed photoshoot might include a beautiful princess-like gown, a castle or palace as a background, and romantic poses. A vintage-themed photoshoot might include clothing and accessories from a specific era, such as the 1920s, and a location that reflects that era, such as an old-fashioned train station.

Advantages include the ability to create a specific and unique concept that reflects the couple's personalities and interests, and the ability to create a cohesive and visually interesting set of photos.

Disadvantages include the potential for the photos to look overly staged or contrived if not executed well.

Outdoor Pre-Wedding Photoshoots

An outdoor pre-wedding photoshoot is the most common type of pre-wedding photoshoot. It takes place in natural settings, such as parks, beaches, gardens or forests. This type of photoshoot is perfect for capturing the natural beauty of the environment and the connection between the couple and nature. Outdoor wedding photoshoots can also include iconic buildings in the background, such as Gardens by the Bay and Marina Bay Sands.

To get exceptionally good portrait photos, including balancing the exposure of both the couples and the background, it's best to use high-end photography.

For example, an outdoor photoshoot on a beach might include romantic poses on the sand, with the ocean as a background, while an outdoor photoshoot in a park might include playful poses among the flowers and trees.

Advantages include the ability to capture the natural beauty of the environment and the connection between the couple and nature, and the ability to create a more relaxed and natural set of photos. Outdoor settings are more interesting than most studios with plain backdrops.

Disadvantages include the potential for poor weather conditions or unexpected obstacles, such as tourists or other people in the background of the shots.

Traditional Pre-Wedding Photoshoots

A traditional pre-wedding photoshoot is based on traditional customs or cultural elements, such as traditional clothing or rituals. This type of photoshoot is perfect for capturing the cultural heritage of the couple and the connection between tradition and modernity.

For example, a traditional photoshoot might include the couple dressed in traditional clothing, such as a kebaya or a cheongsam, and posed in a traditional setting, such as a temple or a traditional village.

Advantages include the ability to capture the cultural heritage of the couple and the connection between tradition and modernity, and the ability to create a set of photos that are meaningful to the couple.

Disadvantages include the potential for the photos to look outdated or unoriginal if not executed well.

A street pre-wedding photoshoot takes place in urban settings, such as city streets, alleys, train stations, neighbourhoods, shopping malls or shops. This type of photoshoot is perfect for capturing the energy and vibrancy of the city, and the connection between the couple and their environment.

For example, a street photoshoot might include candid shots of the couple in their everyday clothing, posed in front of graffiti-covered walls or walking hand in hand down a busy street. Couples can use their creativity to engage with people, public displays, or any items in sales.

Advantages include the ability to capture the energy and vibrancy of the city, and the connection between the couple and their environment. A street pre-wedding photoshoot is modern and trendy.

Disadvantages include the potential for poor lightings or unexpected obstacles, such as traffic or other people in the background of the shots.

Casual Pre-Wedding Photoshoots

A casual pre-wedding photoshoot is based on a more relaxed and casual style, such as everyday clothing or a picnic setting. This type of photoshoot is perfect for capturing the playful and relaxed side of the couple's relationship. Casual wedding photoshoots are popular with couples who wish to keep everything simple. They want to have their wedding photos taken but don't need too fanciful images. Casual wedding photography involves mainly natural light.

I have encountered clients who approached me for a casual wedding photoshoot because they felt that their official wedding photoshoot with a bridal studio was too posey and they didn't enjoy the experience at all. They wanted to have another wedding album that would showcase their true selves.

For example, a casual photoshoot might include the couple dressed in comfortable clothing, such as jeans and t-shirts, posing in a relaxed setting, such as a park or a backyard. It can include casual poses, such as sitting on a blanket and having a picnic, or playing a game together. The goal of this type of photoshoot is to capture the couple's natural personalities and their everyday life.

Advantages include the ability to capture the playful and relaxed side of the couple's relationship, and the ability to create a more natural and authentic set of photos. It's simple and less tiring compared to most other types of pre-wedding photoshoots.

Disadvantages include the potential for the photos to look too casual or unimportant if not executed well.

Studio Pre-Wedding Photoshoots

A studio pre-wedding photoshoot takes place in a studio setting, using professional lighting and equipment. This type of photoshoot is perfect for capturing the elegance and sophistication of the couple.

For example, a studio photoshoot might include the couple dressed in formal clothing, such as a tuxedo and a wedding gown, posed in front of a simple background, with various lighting and poses that are used to create a dramatic and romantic atmosphere.

There are two kinds of photography studios. One is the traditional kind of studio with plain backdrops. The other kind is a themed studio with special settings.

A traditional studio with plain backdrops will allow the focus of the photos to be on the couples. Some props can be added to make the wedding pictures look more interesting. However, when compared to an outdoor wedding photoshoot, studio photoshoots generally are less interesting in terms of the background.

A themed photo studio has more fanciful backdrops and props ready. It's usually more interesting than having a photoshoot with plain backdrops. However, it will come at a higher cost while the special settings would have been used by many other couples before, which actually takes away the uniqueness.

Advantages include the ability to capture the elegance and sophistication of the couple, and the ability to control the lighting and background to create a specific atmosphere. Having a studio pre-wedding photoshoot is much more comfortable than having to perspire outdoors and having to battle insects. The shoot isn't subjected to the weather as well.

Disadvantages include the potential for the photos to look too formal or artificial if not executed well.

Night Pre-Wedding Photoshoots

Night pre-wedding photoshoot

A night pre-wedding photoshoot takes place at night, using various lighting techniques to create a moody and romantic atmosphere. This type of photoshoot is perfect for capturing the intimacy and emotion of the couple.

Night portrait photography is usually done with interesting ambient lighting in the background, such as the light of buildings or decorative light. The photographer would then use flash to fix the overall exposure and make sure the subjects' faces are properly lighted up. Thus, night pre-wedding photography is an art that requires another level of photography skill, experience and additional equipment.

Most photographers would use hard light since it's more portable; however, the light won't be very flattering. Soft light requires more bulky equipment but it's definitely worth the effort and cost.

For example, a night photoshoot might include the couple posed in front of a city skyline or on a bridge with the stars as a background, with different lighting techniques such as candles, fairy lights, or lanterns to create a romantic and intimate atmosphere.

Advantages include the ability to capture the intimacy and emotion of the couple, and the ability to create a moody and romantic atmosphere. It can produce phenomenal pictures, given being done properly.

Disadvantages include the potential for poor lightings or unexpected obstacles, such as traffic or other people in the background of the shots. Professional lighting equipment is heavy and bulky, and thus there may be restrictions.

Artistic Pre-Wedding Photoshoots

An artistic pre-wedding photoshoot is based on an artistic or creative concept, such as fine art, fantasy or conceptual art. This type of photoshoot is perfect for capturing the couple's unique and creative personalities.

Artistic wedding photoshoot is selected by couples who are bold and want something extremely different from others. They can be some matured types of photo concepts or simply themes that would show extra skin. This is quite uncommon in the conservative scene of Singapore but there are still couples who prefer art.

For example, an artistic photoshoot might include the couple posed in front of a colourful mural or a fantasy setting, such as a forest or a castle, with poses and clothing that reflect the artistic concept.

Advantages include the ability to capture the couple's unique and creative personalities, and the ability to create a visually interesting and conceptually cohesive set of photos.

Disadvantages include the potential for the photos to look overly staged or contrived if not executed well. Not everyone can accept art photos.

Edgy Pre-Wedding Photoshoots

An edgy pre-wedding photoshoot has a more modern and edgy style, using unconventional poses, locations or clothing. This type of photoshoot is perfect for capturing the couple's unique personalities and their edgy side. An edgy pre-wedding photoshoot is a form of artwork. It can be done with dramatic lighting and cool expression from the couples. It can also be done with moody/ dark makeup. The photos would look more stylish than the regular kind of wedding photos that show a lot of smiles from the couples.

For example, an edgy photoshoot might include the couple posed in a graffiti-covered alley or on a rooftop with a cityscape background, wearing modern and edgy clothing, and using poses that are bold and unique.

Advantages include the ability to capture the couple's unique personalities and their edgy side, and the ability to create a set of photos that are bold and unique. Disadvantages include the potential for the photos to look too unconventional or unappealing if not executed well.

Destination Pre-Wedding Photoshoots

Destination pre-wedding photoshoot in Singapore

A destination pre-wedding photoshoot takes place at a specific location outside of the home country, such as a romantic getaway or a scenic location. This type of photoshoot is perfect for capturing the couple's love and connection in a beautiful and exotic setting. Destination wedding photoshoot is a luxury wedding photography. It's popular among couples who wish to have their pre-wedding photoshoot done in another country. During the trip, the couples can have holidays in that country and thus achieve at least two goals at a time.

For example, a destination photoshoot might include the couple posed in front of a stunning waterfall or on a beach with crystal clear water, with poses and clothing that reflect the natural beauty of the location.

While a destination wedding photoshoot is a good idea for couples who love travelling, it's rather costly. They need to pay for not only their air tickets and accommodations in the foreign country but also for the entire team, which consists of the wedding photographer, hair and makeup artist and assistant(s). Often, they would require car rental as well.

What most destination wedding companies and photographers do is create packages for couples to book in the same period. The wedding team will fly over to that country and stay there to shoot different pairs of couples on alternate days. In this way, all the couples are sharing the cost of the air tickets for the wedding team.

Unfortunately, the accommodation fees for the team will be much higher than what the couples would have to pay for their normal holiday trips.

Technically, wedding companies will have to charge higher wedding rates for it's more challenging to get prepared and bring the equipment on board the plane. They have to pack their items for daily use as well.

While Singaporeans fly out of Singapore for their dream destination wedding photoshoots, people from all over the world do travel over to Singapore for their dream destination wedding photoshoots as well.

Locals who wish to get wedding pictures with great scenery can do their pre-wedding photoshoots in Singapore. It just requires some research to find beautiful places in Singapore.

Advantages include the ability to capture the couple's love and connection in a beautiful and exotic setting, and the ability to create a set of photos that are unique and meaningful. A destination pre-wedding photoshoot is a good idea for couples who love travelling.

Disadvantages include the potential for unexpected obstacles such as poor weather conditions, extremely high costs, and potential difficulty in coordinating the photoshoot at a remote location.

Bridal Photoshoots

Bridal photoshoot

A bridal photoshoot focuses on the bride-to-be, often featuring the bride in different outfits, poses and locations, to showcase her beauty and elegance. This type of photoshoot is perfect for capturing the bride's personality, style and elegance. It can be done in a studio, outdoors or a specific location, such as a castle or a palace, and can include a variety of poses and settings, such as close-ups, full-length shots, and candid moments, to create a beautiful and memorable solo bridal album.

A bridal photoshoot can also be done by a solo lady. For example, some ladies may want to experience doing a bridal photoshoot on their own. Wedding gowns and dresses are fashionable and they are more unique than the usual outfits that ladies would use for common fashion photoshoots. Of course, it doesn't mean they won't be doing an official pre-wedding photoshoot with their future partners before their marriages.

Advantages include the ability to capture the bride's personality, style and elegance, and create a beautiful and memorable solo bridal album.

Disadvantages include the potential for the photos to look too focused on the bride and not enough on the couple as a whole and the potential for the groom to feel left out of the photoshoot process.

How to Make Your Pre-Wedding Photoshoot More Interesting?

As a professional pre-wedding photographer in Singapore, there are several ways to make pre-wedding photoshoots more interesting and unique. Here are a few tips to make your photoshoot stand out:

  1. Personalise it:

Incorporate elements that reflect your personalities and interests into the photoshoot. This can be anything from incorporating your favourite hobbies or activities, such as playing musical instruments, dancing or travelling, to incorporating your favourite quotes or song lyrics into the photoshoot. This will make the photoshoot more personal and interesting.

  2. Be Creative with the location:

Instead of going for the usual locations, consider finding unique and interesting places that reflect your personalities and interests. This could be anything from an abandoned warehouse, to a beautiful rooftop, a picturesque waterfall, an urban graffiti wall or even a place that holds sentimental value for both of you. This will make the photoshoot more interesting and unique.

  3. Play with different moods:

Mix up the moods of your photoshoot by having some photos that are playful and fun, and others that are more intimate and romantic. This will make your photoshoot more dynamic and interesting. For example, you can have some photos that capture the fun and playful side of your relationship, and others that capture the more intimate and romantic side.

  4. Use Props:

Using props can add a fun and interesting element to your pre-wedding photoshoot. This could be anything from balloons to vintage cars, old-fashioned bicycles, parasols, umbrellas or even something as simple as a blanket or a picnic basket. Props can help to set the scene and create a certain mood or atmosphere in the photos.

  5. Try different poses and angles:

Experiment with different poses and angles. This will make your photoshoot more dynamic and interesting. Instead of the usual poses, try something unique and creative, such as a dramatic pose, a silly pose or a candid shot. Experimenting with different angles can also help to create more interesting and dynamic photos.

  6. Have fun:

Remember that your pre-wedding photoshoot is a celebration of your love and relationship. So have fun, be relaxed and let your personalities shine through in the photos. Don't be afraid to laugh, joke around, and be silly together. The more relaxed and comfortable you are, the more natural and authentic the photos will be.

Ultimately, the most important thing is to let your creativity flow and have fun with it! Your pre-wedding photoshoot is an opportunity to capture the love and emotion between you and your partner, so choose poses, locations and props that make you both feel happy and relaxed. Let your personalities shine through and make the photoshoot an experience to remember.
